A Newspoll published in The Australian on 17 June 2015 has found that a majority of Coalition supporters oppose changes to legislation that would allow same-sex couples to be married in Australia.
The poll results indicate that federal Coalition MPs and senators should stand firm in support of man-woman marriage as a fundamental party policy.
The poll found that a majority of Labor and Greens supporters support such changes – giving an overall majority of respondents (58%) apparently in favour of same-sex “marriage”.
However the 58% support is a significant drop from the 72% cited by Rodney Croome’s Australian Marriage Equality lobby group, whose Textor poll was published last year.
Support for same-sex “marriage” appears to be falling dramatically as more people think about the implications for children.
A very large US government study found that children are safest by far when raised by their natural married parents, compared with those raised in other family types.
