Behind the tragic Sydney siege
Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Sheik Man Haron Monis

“We salute the selfless courage of the two hostages who died.  Café manager Tori Johnson was fatally shot while trying to grab the jihadi’s gun, allowing others to flee.  Barrister and mother-of-three Katrina Dawson was killed while trying to protect her pregnant friend, Julie Taylor – who was wounded, but survived.”

Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

“Ironically, the gunman, recently converted from Shia to radical Sunni Islam, posted this message on his website last week: Islam is a religion of peace,” Ros Phillips said.

“But what he meant by ‘peace’ – the whole world submitting to Allah and Mohammed’s teaching – is not how other Australians understand the word.

“Most Australian Muslims are truly peaceful.  They do not follow the strict teaching of the Koran, and do not deserve the odium many will receive in the weeks to come.  We reach out to them with the peace and goodwill that inspires this Christmas season.

“But it is important to understand what the prophet Mohammed taught his followers, and is still motivating some Muslims today,” Ros Phillips said.  “Click on the link below to read the whole story – how Islam began, what the Quran teaches, why there is continuing strife between Sunni and Shi-ite Muslims, the real meaning of jihad, and much more: http://www.fava.org.au/publications-access-notice/215.”
