Jimmy Little – a role model for all AustraliansTuesday, April 3, 2012
“New South Wales – and Australia - have lost a great role model,” FamilyVoice Australia state officer Graeme Mitchell said today.
“Jimmy Little, who died yesterday in Dubbo aged 75, had a big heart.
“He was Aboriginal and proud of it, and a firm advocate for reconciliation. His gentle approach won him friends from all sections of the community.
“His loving marriage of 55 years to his wife Marjorie Rose was an example and inspiration.
“But most of all he will be remembered for his hit song, “Royal Telephone”:
Telephone to glory, oh what joy divine!
I can feel the current moving on the line,
Built by God the Father for His loved and own,
We may talk to Jesus on this royal telephone!
“Jimmy Little was a man of faith who was not afraid to sing about it. We need more like him!” Mr Mitchell said.
