Election Survey - Victoria 2014 - Q9

Q9 - Adoption

Children placed for adoption deserve the best possible care. Research evidence confirms the common sense view that children flourish best when raised by both a mother and a father. Allowing same-sex couples to adopt would intentionally deprive a child of the love of either a father or of a mother, and would be unfair to the child.

Would you vote against any bill that would allow same-sex couples to adopt children?

Victorian Labor will always act in the best interest of the child. We recognise that the gender or sexual preference of either or both parents is no factor to whether a child is raised in a loving, happy and stable home. We must ensure there is an end to discrimination against these children and their families. We will provide legal certainty to hundreds of children across Victoria.
