Election Survey - Victoria 2014 - Q10

Q10 - Internet Filters in Public Libraries

many public libraries have refused to install filters to block hardcore pornography, terrorism and suicide promotion websites from their computers. Children and others have been exposed to such sites, despite claims of librarian supervision.

Would you support funding only those public libraries whose computers have filters blocking harmful websites?

Librarians and other staff throughout Victoria monitor how PCs are used in the library and actively discourage, and if necessary, prevent undesirable online activity from taking place.  These protections have proven to be effective and the State Government therefore sees no need to withhold funding from public libraries.
