Election Survey - Tasmania 2014 - Q1

Q1 - Prayers in Parliament

Prayers in parliament are an important daily reminder that we must all ultimately answer to the higher authority of Almighty God. The prayers, which consist of the Lord's Prayer and a request for God's guidance, are an expression of the Christian foundation of our state and nation. According to the latest national census, about 61% of Australians identify with Christianity.

Would you vote to support the continued daily opening of State Parliament with Christian prayers?

Liberal Party

The Liberals will support the continuation of daily opening of State Parliament with Christian prayers.
Australian Labor Party

The prayer is a House of Assembly Standing Order. To make any changes to the Standing Order it would need to be put to the members of the new Parliament and could only be changed with agreement of the majority of the members of Parliament. The Labor Party has no plans to change the Standing Order.
